1. Information We Collect

When you create a BrainRotBooks account we collect:

• Account information:email address, username, and password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
• Usage data:reading progress (chapter and word position), selected voice variant, and player preferences (font size, highlight effect, caption color).
• Device information:device type and operating system version, collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure for performance monitoring.

We do not collect location data, contacts, health data, financial information, or advertising identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Authenticate your account and maintain your session.
• Save and sync your reading progress across devices.
• Restore your player preferences (voice, speed, display settings).
• Send transactional emails (password reset, email verification) when you request them.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared only with:

• Infrastructure providers:hosting and email delivery services that process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality.
• Legal requirements:if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers located in the United States. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed using Django's PBKDF2 algorithm. Session cookies are HTTP-only and secure in production.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (reading progress, preferences, profile information) is permanently removed within 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You can:

• Access your data via the Account page in the app.
• Update your email, display name, and password at any time.
• Delete your account and all associated data from the Account page.
• Export your data by contacting us at the email below.

7. Children's Privacy

BrainRotBooks is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

8. Cookies

The web app uses session cookies for authentication and a gate cookie for site access. The iOS app uses secure session tokens. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
